Sinusitis and Sinus Pressure

Increased sinus pressure is a sign of sinusitis. When your sinus cavities and passages get inflamed, pressure buildup occurs from swelling and an accumulation of mucus. Allergic reactions, weather changes and infections are the major causes of this inflammation. Hormonal transitions also play a massive role in the development of sinus pressure in women.

Whenever your sinus gets blocked by the mucous, the sinus pressure increases and causes headaches. You must have tried different conventional treatment methods, including nasal sprays to relieve congestion. Do you wish to know how face yoga is a natural way to cure sinus pressure?

Face yoga involves exercises focusing on your facial muscles. When you perform face yoga, it increases blood circulation and promotes increased drainage of the built-up mucus, which helps relieve pressure from your sinuses and relax your facial muscles. Specifically, targeted face yoga exercises for your sinus will help overcome the pressure and discomfort caused by sinusitis.

Let us learn some face yoga techniques which target your sinuses.

5 Face Yoga Techniques for Sinus Relief

The following are some of the most effective natural ways to alleviate sinus pressure. Start practising face yoga to relieve the discomfort your sinus is causing you.

Brow Smoother Face Yoga

This face yoga focuses on your frontal sinuses ( sinuses present in your forehead region) and relieves tension in your forehead area by reducing pressure.

  • Start by placing your fingertips on your forehead to perform this face yoga exercise.
  • Slowly and gently sweep your fingertips outwards to your temple.
  • Apply slight pressure when you perform this face yoga.

Using a few drops of eucalyptus oil on your fingertips while performing this exercise can help, as it has anti-inflammatory properties.

Nose Pincher Face Yoga

This exercise helps relieve congestion from your nasal passage and focuses on the sinuses around your nasal region.

  • Using your thumb and your index finger, gently pinch your nose.
  • Slide your fingers down the sides of your nose while applying light pressure.
  • Repeat several times.

Perform this exercise after inhaling steam to enhance sinus drainage.

Cheek Lift Facial Yoga

This face yoga focuses on your lateral sinus (sinus present in the area of your cheeks and sides of the nose), relieves pressure, and improves blood circulation.

  • Start by keeping your index and middle fingers on your cheeks.
  • Gently apply pressure as you lift your cheeks upwards towards your eyes.
  • Hold the position for 5-10 seconds and release.

Eye Circle Face Yoga

This Face Yoga helps relieve the buildup pressure from your ethmoidal sinus(the sinus between your eyes and nose).

  • Keep your fingertips right below your eyes.
  • Starting from that point, move the fingertips smoothly around your eyes in a circular motion.

You can apply aloe vera gel on your fingertips or any other cooling eye gel to relax and reduce eye puffiness.

Jaw Release Face Yoga

This exercise can help relieve the tension in your jaw while aiding in the drainage of your sinuses.

  • Place your fingers on your jawline joint on both sides.
  • Gently massage in circular motions.
  • Open and close your mouth slowly while doing the above steps.

To enhance the effects of this face yoga exercise for sinus relief, consider using a warm compress that will help relax your muscles further.
